From tree planting to hedgerow management, trees are a key topic for many environmental groups. Much of the South Hams also falls within the rare temperate rainforest zone, making it a particularly important region for considering how best to support existing woodland and encourage new growth.

In a few weeks SHDC’s “South Hams Tree, Woodland & Hedge Plan 2024 - 2029” will be published. This plan recognises that it is not only trees and woodland that are vital for mitigating climate change and biodiversity in our landscape but that our network of hedges have to be included as well.
Throughout 2025 Moor Trees will be celebrating a significant quarter century milestone with a packed schedule of events.
Tree Wardens are volunteers who are united in their love of trees and hedges and want to conserve as many of them as they can within their parish or town.
Engaging residents and visitors to conserve, enhance, and and value the South Devon National Landscape. Projects include Farming in Protected Landscapes, Access for All, biodiversity projects in the estuaries, coast, and landscape including Life on the Edge - restoring coastal species-rich grasslands for endangered invertebrates.
