On Wednesday 26th March we hosted an online Change Makers meeting with Peter Lefort from Green Futures Network at the University of Exeter.

Built on new and emerging research from Exeter University and beyond, the positive tipping points framework is a way to re-think our understanding of how change happens. We’re familiar with negative tipping points that can accelerate the crisis, such as glacier melt or biodiversity loss, but we are also becoming more able to predict and encourage positive shifts which will help us avoid the worst impacts.

The session provided examples of how creating the right conditions for change, building momentum, and triggering change can bring a shift into a new system. We looked at the tipping point for mobile phone use and how this technology quickly became an intrinsic part of every day life, and that a global tipping point will soin be reached when electric vehicles cost the same to manufacture as conventional cars.

This was a hugely informative session, with thanks to Peter Lefort and the valuable work being undertaken by the University of Exeter.
