Repair cafes offer a refreshing and sustainable alternative to consumer culture by fostering a community spirit and promoting environmental responsibility. These unique spaces provide a venue for individuals to bring broken or damaged items and receive help from skilled volunteers in fixing them, free of charge or for a donation to running costs.
There are many benefits of using and supporting repair cafes. Not only do they reduce waste but they conserve resources and help people save money. Additionally, they cultivate a sense of community as people come together to share skills and knowledge. South Hams are very lucky to have a vibrant network of repair cafes in Ashburton, Dartington, South Brent, Ivybridge, and Kingsbridge. Each of these cafes plays a vital role in supporting local sustainability efforts and encouraging a culture of repairing over discarding, reflecting the community's commitment to a greener future.
Here is a look at the Repair Cafes we have in South Hams.
Ashburton
Operating with 27 volunteers, Ashburton Repair Cafe has been going since 2018 and fixes around 100 items per month. That’s a lot of items diverted from landfill!
