Often the Sustainable South Hams compost mentors will come out to communities to share the love for compost, but last week, a group of compost enthusiasts from Dartmouth and Totnes did a tour around several of the fabulous community sites that exist in the South Hams.  Their purpose was to understand the breadth and range of solutions and to take the ideas that might apply to their communities.

The roadshow was arranged by Cllr Jacqi Hodgson, who is the portfolio holder for composting at South Hams District Council.

The group met in the early evening at the potential Totnes site at Steamer Quay car park and then moved on to the long-established site at Ashprington. A quick stopover at the newly formed site at Marldon allowed the group to see a smaller scale solution before finishing off the larger scale site at South Brent.

As well as the community composting at South Brent, Sustainable South Hams has been working with Sustainable South Brent to create a Home Compost Demo site. The aim here is to encourage residents to maximise composting at home - surely this is a better solution than throwing everything in the back of a vehicle to be taken elsewhere.

Big thanks to all those involved who made the evening such a success.
