Sustainable South Hams hosted a deep dive into community composting at a recent two-day long masterclass held in South Brent. A video summary of the event can be seen here.

A total of 28 attendees from ten different communities gathered to hear from ‘Dr Compost’ Nicky Scott and SusSH mentors Ben Bryant and Stuart Saunders on the practicalities and benefits of community composting. Delegates visited Sustainable South Brent’s successful Marsh Composting Site as well as their School Garden project.

The event was a huge success, with attendees giving it a 9.6 out of ten for how useful the information was.

Well organised and informative. Thoroughly enjoyable event” - Councillor Jacqui Hodgson, South Hams District Council

Loads of ideas to take back to South Hams District Council” - Vic Thomas, South Hams District Council

Materials from the event including a Composting Guide, legislation, and the presentations can be found here.

With huge thanks to South Hams District Council for funding this event.

We have another composting class coming up on Saturday 8th June at Makers Mews in Ivybridge. This time we will be looking at ways to repurpose your brown bins into compost bins, wormeries, and rain butts.
