About this event
Following the huge success of our Community Composting weekend Masterclass last year we are repeating the event with plenty of new, fascinating and fun content.
This two-day course will be led by 'Dr Compost' Nicky Scott and SusSH Compost Mentors Ben Bryant and Mel Harvey. They will offer a deep dive for all those interested in developing a community composting site or for existing sites wishing to share experiences, develop or diversify their projects and learn from other sites.
There are limited spaces on the course and we are keen to ensure that this knowledge gets spread across the district. Attendees should be willing and able to use the course to develop projects in their own community, and we would ideally prefer to have two or three representatives from a town/parish/project.
Sessions will include:
- Introduction to community composting (for beginners)
- Exploring challenges and solutions (for emerging and existing projects)
- Accessing funding through South Hams District Council
- Compliance and jumping through the hoops
- Soil life & structure
New this year:
- Keeping your project alive & thriving - e.g. capacity building, governance, group development & project management
- Diversification and income generation - Adding value e.g. making fungi, biochar and other products, marketing & distribution.
- Community composting for local food growing
- Street scale community composting & the Loop Frome business model
